Favorite overnights

On occasion I have the good fortune to have fabulous overnights. Two of those Fab overnights include palm springs and Vancouver Canada.

Palm springs:
For anyone who has never visited Palm Springs, you really need to take a weekend and enjoy the majesty of this southern California gem.  The weather is almost always perfect, shopping is ample, and the cute downtown will steal your heart. I personally am completely content just staying at our crew hotel and enjoying the pool. Very few things bring me more joy than my phone telling me it's snowing in utah as my skin is Browning :)

Vancouver BC:
Ok, I LOVE Vancouver!!! We are fortune enough to stay at the Sydney pier hotel and spa in Sydney. In my opinion this is the best crew hotel thus making it one of the best overnights. This adorable little town iis a mix between Balboa island California and Laie Hawaii. Sydney is definitely is the type of community and atmosphere I would like to find myself living in one day. This area is so beautiful! Soooo BEAUTIFUL! Tje hotel is completely eco friendly with amazing products (when you are on the road as much as i am, trust me, good products are important). The hotel also offers a dog you can walk, whale watching, running trails, a full service spa, as well as amazing ocean views from almost every room. Another great find in Sydney is the cafe on 3rd a darling cafe owned by a former flight attendant and also home to the very best eggs benedict.

Maui.

Went to Maui for Valentine's weekend. I am lucky to have a friend like Nikki

Papa John's new stem cells

My dad, known as Papa John just completed a bone marrow transplant. The poor Guy has been in UCLA medical center for the past seventeen days and now has been released to a hospital hotel for hopefully less than a week until he's fully discharged to go home.
If you would like to read about Papa John's process you can visit

This is not the most flattering picture. I know this. I was a little stunned at just how much hair he had really lost. After 2.5 yrs of chemo he has never lost this much hair.

Muddy

Jack Attack

I have now seen Jack Johnson 4 times and i would pay another $50 to see him again! Corey SImons, one of my favorite Hawaiian friends, took me to Jack. I flew in for the evening and had a delightful stay.

John is a Champian

JOhn Hathaway 1
From what we understand from John’s friends present, is that John and six friends were skating at the North Shore skate park when three guys and two girls began attacking them, completely unprovoked. We believe they were high on something. John was hit in the head and knocked unconscious. He was then hit in the head with a metal rod and then beaten when he was down. John’s friend were able to get him to a car and then he was taken to Kahuku medical center. An hour later, he was transported to Queen’s medical center in Honolulu.

John’s friend’s Pat and Greg stayed with John until Mom, Dad, and I arrived today. We feel blessed for flight benefits that got us to the island as quickly as possible. John has had two cat scans and now has staples in his head. The scans indicate that he has a fracture from one ear over the top of his head to above the other ear. He has blood on his brian, which is a cause for concern, but the doctors are not going to perform surgery, which is good.

This afternoon when we arrived he started talking to us and even made a few jokes which is a huge improvement from last night when he was struggling to respond.

John has received two blessing and we believe a miracle is taking place. Please continue to fast and pray for him to make a full recovery, which is far from over.

We are doing well and we love the visitors, however the hospital is asking for visits to be kept brief so that John's resting time can be maximized. I am staying at the hospital at night with John, however if anyone has a place in town where my parenst could stay, it would be appreciated because it would take off the drive to Laie. Thank you so much for the prayers and for those who are fasting for John and our family. Please do not stop. We love you dearly and are truely humbled by the amount of love we have recevied from so many in such a short amount of time. I will try to update regularly so that everyone knows what is happening.

John update 2

There are some questions that people wanted answered that were not included in the last update:

John is located at Queens medical center in Honolulu

1301 Punchbowl Street

Honolulu, Hawaii 96813

HIs room number is 525

You can not call the hospital, they will tell you that he is not here because we do not want the phone ringing off the hook. IF you want to talk to someone please call me or text. I am also being my Mom's secretary so call me instead of her so she can be with John as much as possible.

We do know who did this to JOhn and an investigation is underway. We are just hoping that the police will catch these people before anyone else gets hurt.

This incident happened at the North Shore Skateboarding park.

John was with six friends- Pat, his wife Carrie, Greg and his wife Jenn, John's roommate Nate, and Ryan, another friend.

Almost everyone was hurt- they have black eyes, bumps, and bruises. Ryan also has a small head fracture, but was treated and released. Everyone for the most part is fine. For whatever reason John was hurt the worst.

John was moved out of ICU yesterday! He is a lot more coherent today and is starting to make a little more conversation. The doctor says it is too early to tell what the long term effects are at this point. He ate some mac and cheese, but then threw it up.

His swelling is reducing, which is wonderful and the blood on his brian is not growing.

We still need the prayers for John. This fight is FAR from over.

We are so humbled by the huge response of love that our family has received. We are blessed to have so many good friends and family members. Thanks you endlessly. Please continue to pray that JOhn will make a full recovery and that while he is healing he can get comfortable so he can rest and heal faster. We are seeing the hand of the Lord in this situation. Prayers are being answering and we believe that they will continue to be answered. We love you all!

Mahalo,

CHristina Beana

John Update 3
Sorry for the delay. We are starting to feel really exhausted and keeping updates coming is hard because we do not always have computer access.

Today John met with the PT (physical therapist) and OT (occupational therapist). He does not have full function of his left foot. It's almost like a limp limb. He also struggled to keep open one of his eyes. Last night was rough. He could not get comfortable and finally after hours of messages, showers, walks, him getting boiling hot, then freezing cold, John calmed down and slept for 4 hours straight!!!!!! This is the most he has slept since his accident! All he asks is, "is it time to go home to Hauula?". We keep telling him that we need to make sure he is more stable before he can go home.

The PT said that if John continues to improve like he has been, then he may be released as soon as tomorrow or the next day, but he will still need 24/7 care for quite some time before he will be fully self-sufficient.

He has started going on walks around his room and the wing that he is in. He is still Tipsy and needs to be guided.

Poor guy just wants to go home.

All of the restlessness, inability to sleep, extreme temperature change, etc- are all typical of a traumatic brain injury. This entire time the only pain medication that John has been able to have is Tylenol.

Everyone who has been interviewed by the detective has positively identified the “IDIOT” who did this to John.

The "IDIOT" was arrested today and we are so grateful for our detective!

There were four others who were involved in this incident and we hope that they will be identified and arrested soon as well.

At this point, we are going to try to set up a system so that John can recuperate here in Hawaii because of his strong support system that we believe will encourage him to heal faster.

The neurologist said that for two weeks John can do NOTHING but rest and do fun things. Poor John- this will exclude surfing and skating for at least 6 months.

SueAnn wanted me to THANK EVERYONE! Literally we have received calls from John’s friend’s parents, friends in all over the country, countless text messages and facebook posts. We have also received calls from Bishops that we do not even know, people we don’t know, friends, and family. We are really lucky people. We are blessed to have so many good friends.

We know that the prayers and fasting have assisted and we know he will probably need more. Please continue to pray that John's head will heal and that he will be released and can be home in Hauula where he feels most comfortable.

Sometimes we do not understand why certain things happen, but as time goes by it is evident that the Lord’s hand was involved the entire time. We have felt the Lord’s hand countless times within the last couple of days and we know he will continue to play a role in this situation.

Much Love and Aloha,

Christina Beana

PS- I do have some pictures of John and as soon as i figure out how to post them i will!

John Update 4
SO sorry that there has not been an update. We have been busy.

John was released on Sunday morning. He must have constant care for at least two weeks. He still can do nothing but rest for at least a month. I left Sunday night and Mom and Dad left yesterday morning and left John where he is being cared for by many wonderful friends. We are so grateful for our many friends that are until he is well enough to travel. Then John will make the decision about if he will stay in hawaii or come to California.

John says he is feeling better, however he still has a few issues that make him uncomfortable.

Originally the "IDIOT" who did this to John only charged of first degree robbery, but now after all the evidence has been collected the "IDIOT" is being charged with attempted murder. The hearing for this "IDIOT" will take place Wednesday.

If you will like to send a card to John please call me, my mom, or Aunt Marcia for the address.

Thanks you so much for the prayers and fasting. We know they have been heard in John's behalf. Another man came into the hospital with a similar injury to John, however this man is on life support. We feel very grateful at how John has responded to this injury.

This is the link to the newspaper report about John's incident.

Sooooo my ELEMENT

SOOOOOO my favorite place to be. North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

NY NY

Time Square really does BLOW your mind!

New Meaning

Layering for the cold took new meaning on my Edmonton Canada overnight. I had on two pairs of leggings, a pair of jeans, tank top, shirt, sweater, my own coat, my own scarf, Eldon's scarf, Eldon's jacket, and Eldon's gloves and i was still cold! I made Eldon take me to a store where i purchased even more clothing to prevent frostbite. This truly is the COLDEST weather i have ever been in. Eldon, next time lets go to the indoor water park when it's in the negatives!

Brick Oven Pizza

At a recent gathering, I was pleasantly surprised by a homemade brick oven in my friends backyard. Did i mention that the oven was homemade! We made delicious pesto chicken pizza with fresh tomatoes and basil. We also had a large bonfire that was a welcome alternative to the inside chills that have been taken place during these cold winter months.
